Thinking of going away on holiday but you’re worried that your pool will look like a swamp when you return? Don’t worry: we’ve got you covered. In this article, we’ll share with you some practical holiday pool maintenance hints and tips that will help you keep your swimming pool in excellent condition even if you’re away on a holiday. Let’s get started!

1. Prep The Pool Before You Go

Before your departure, you should fill the pool all the way up with water. The right water level is important because if it goes down, the filter won’t work. Then, check and adjust the pool’s pH level. Don’t forget to shock the pool water. If you use tablets or sticks, you should fill the chlorinator or chlorine floater before you leave. You may also add some algaecide to ensure that your pool won’t turn green in your absence.

2. Prevent Break-ins

Every year, hundreds of people are injured or even die in swimming pools not their own. To prevent unauthorised pool use, consider getting a pool alarm. If you don’t have enough time to buy and install one, simply secure all the gates and fences surrounding your home. Also, remove anything by the fence that can be used by people to get into your property and into your pool.

3. Find a Pool-Sitter

Ask a friend or neighbour to look after your pool when you’re away. With someone to pool-sit for you, you can be sure that a trusted person will keep an eye on the water level, as well as check the filter pressure and other pool equipment for problems. If you have signed up for holiday pool services, leave the company’s contact details with your friend or neighbour so they can easily reach them.

4. Keep The Filter System Running

Before you go, ensure that that the filter is up and running. If you have an automatic timer, set it to allow the filter to run at least eight hours every day. If you don’t, ensure that someone is around to monitor and run the filter.

By following these tips, your Canberra pool should be in good condition once you return from your holiday. Have a safe trip and enjoy! And remember, we are here to help, so if you have any questions about holiday pool maintenance just give us a call!
